Theri is a Tamil action film written and directed by Atlee and produced by Kalaipuli S. Thanu. The film features Vijay, Samantha and Amy Jackson in the lead roles, while Prabhu, Raadhika Sarathkumar,Mahendran,Motta Rajendran and Baby Nainika playing important roles.
Vijay plays three chatacters Joseph Kuruvilla, Vijay Kumar and Dharmeshwar. Vijay Kumar is a cop. Samantha plays his wife Mithra, a doctor by profession. Interestingly the tough cop sees an opposition Mahendran. Amy Jackson plays a Malayalee teacher of Vijay’s daughter Nainika. Raadhika Sarathkumar as Vijay’s mother steals the show. Mottai Rajendran’s chemistry with Vijay has worked out well.
The films starts in Kerala where Joseph Kuruvilla lives with his daughter. From there the film goes to a flashback mode which revolves around Vijay Kumar(Cop Vijay) and Mithra (Samantha). Nainika steals the show as Vijay’s daughter with her cute expressions and her dialogues are a big highlight to the film.
Vijay has done all the three roles perfectly and his screen presence a major plus for the film. Samantha as Doctor Mithra looks gorgeous gives a soulful performance and her chemistry with Vijay has worked out really well.Amy plays as Nainika’s teacher has done a neat job. Veteran director Mahendran has got an powerful debut with this film.
Atlee’s film after Raja Rani this time with a commercial one.His dialogues are worth mentoning.George C Williams’s camera is the main highlight of the film giving us fresh visuals throughout the film. His special efforts for interval block and long shots are clearly visible.Editor Reuben’s cuts are decent.
Theri is another Vijay’s albums where songs are elevated by picturization and Vijay’s dance movements especially in Jithu Jilladia. Vijay’s duet number with Samantha is breezy to watch. The background music elevates the scenes. GV Prakash has tried his best to make the narration pacy.
